This was really a test, to see how on earth you are supposed to embed videos to software such as WordPress. But, I’m sure some people who enjoy a good old Minecraft video of two people surviving on a custom map, will enjoy this. That is, if the embed even worked.

Yeah, well this is just me and my mate Connor, playing a Minecraft custom map known as Stratosphere Survival. There are links to it, and the texture pack in the description of all seven episodes we’ve thus far done. And hey, if you like, you may want to hit Subscribe, because you get informed of our latest videos, and we benefit from the publicity, and are incentivised to make more! It’s a big circle if you think about it.

Games don’t improve with time and new technology. A great game deserves its place in time, and should never be forgotton. By that, I mean that a good game could be made years ago, when graphics were not the best – or today, with the modern graphics that games have. Let’s take older games, such as Half-Life (1999). The Half-Life series is probably still my favourite series. The graphics in it were moderate at the time, and are quite bad compatred to today’s standards. But that doesn’t make it a bad game, by any means. You have a great storyline, lots of guns and action, good music that really sets the atmosphere of the different parts of the game, and you always have a goal in sight, which keeps you playing.

Let’s take Skyrim. It’s a new game, with good graphics, and still awesome. Why? Because the storyline is good and engaging. The music is composed excellently, and different music sets the atmosphere for all the different parts. The sheer amount of quests in Skyrim allows you to stay engaged in the game.

Therefore, when a game was released does not change how good it is. Neither do the graphics. I’ll tell you why silly console kiddies care only for graphics and killing in Call of Duty. It’s the greed of big companies, who only care about making money. You get very few game developers these days who care for music, storyline, quality of the game in general as well as graphics. Such companies who care are Valve, and a small developer called Frictional Games. If EA Games would just disband, and perhaps Sony too, then all other smaller developers who were webbed into doing EA’s bidding, then I can only conclude that we would have much better games these days.

EA’s Origin

Hmm it’s been quite a while since I posted anything, but 160 characters doesn’t fully express my outrage at EAs latest blunder. It’s obviously by no means new, as Origin was released sometime last year. You see, I spotted something on Twitter about Crysis 3 possibly being hinted at. I love the Crysis series, and it is generally running great on my computer, which is a bonus. I for one, cannot wait until Crysis 3 is released, as it has seemingly been confirmed on Origin.

So Crysis is made by Crytek, what’s my problem? Well, EA has published Crysis and Crysis 2, and the chances it will publish Crysis 3 are high, seeing as how this hint was found on Origin. (http://www.lifeoflewis.com/5tx9) If this is the case, then EAs publishing terms will most likely force Crytek to release it on Origin, and nowhere else.

How does this affect me? Well, those avid gamers will know that Origin has been labelled as nothing but spyware. The software scans your entire hard drive, and collects information on every single program you have installed. It collects information on what you do on your computer, and it collects information on your hardware too. Then, combining this info with your personal details, it will create advertising targetted directly at you. EA has also stated it will happily sell the information on to third-party companies.

While Steam also does this, what Valve collect information on is relevant stuff. Hardware specs, information about how your games are runing etc, and nothing more. Thus, I have no problem with Steam. You can also choose to opt out of this on Steam if you do not wish for your information to be sold. On Origin, you have no choice but to accept that they are going to do this, and there is nothing you can do to stop them for as long as you use their software.

EA is acting like a big capitalist company of the early 19th century. Prices of games such as Battlefield are much lower on Origin to try and entice people to them. This is the workings of capitalism, yes, and all companies are trying to compete. But what EA does with you once you’ve gone to the dark side is unacceptable.

So the chances of Crysis 3 being on Steam? Unlikely. But with all that being said, Valve are actually a publisher in their own right. Perhaps Crytek will have the sense to use a different publisher, and kick the bad habit that is more commonly known as Electronic Arts.

Prelim Examinations
Prelimenary Exams
Prelim Exams
Prelims!

Exams which you sit under final exam conditions, based upon the final papers of the past years, and given to you for many reasons:

So the exam board can have evidence to suggest you can pass, if you happen to fail the final exam

To get a feel of what the exam will be like

So you know what you need to revise more (which is more often that not, everything.)

The cheeky buggers make them harder than the actual exams, lull you into a false sense of worry and by the time you’re to sit the final exams, you find it’s actually easier than what some teachers make it out to be.

My point is that I have them in about a month’s time. English. History. Politics. Music. Fuck.

Ahhh I got a conditional offer for Abertay University to study Computing! I just need to get another two Bs this year and I will have a place! After completing the horrors of UCAS, I sent away my application, only to have it returned.. twice. The system sucks when it’s not used efficiently and correctly. I wasn’t sure if I’d made the deadline, but I sent it away over a month ago, and I still see people sending theirs away now.

But I guess I’m almost committed to studying computers, their workings, their ins and outs and generally interesting stuff (and boring database stuff too) for four years. I really hope there’s a job at the end of it..

Oh well, I shant moan about it, but rather look forward to it and be grateful that I have received an offer to the university that I actually want to go to!

No I don’t mean birthday parties, where the only things in goodie bags are party poppers, a single sweet and a toy whistle. I’m talking about the house parties that 16+ year olds host while their parents are out. Hmm… not my thing at all I’m afraid. I’ve never been to one for a number of reasons, but I’d rather not either.

For one, I hate alcohol. I have a liver disease that makes my hangovers last 10x longer, so not so good. Also, I hate seeing how stupid it makes people. Thirdly, it tastes like shite for the most part (until you are too numb to feel anything).

You may think I’m seeming like some sort of sulking nerd who lives with his computer. Well, you’d be partially right, at least! So I like spending time on this machine. Through my eyes that is better than going to some party for a few hours of “good times”, only to wake up the next morning feeling like shit and having to waste the day in bed.

What. Is. The. Point.

Maybe it’s the way I’ve been encouraged to think, or maybe it’s the way that I feel myself… but does one really need alcohol to have a good time? Surely not.

However, if I got invited to one of these paties I’d probably go anyway. And, to much of my friends’ disappointment, I would hog the soft drinks.

Oh yeah, the other thing is being sick. Why put yourself through it?

Anyway yeah, that’s just my thought for a day since I haven’t posted anything in almost a month.

Today, no matter who or where you are in the world should be a day of peace and reflection. I am going to be serious in this post, because I want to mirror the effect of war upon society.

It was on this day 93 years ago that the armistice was signed between Britain and Germany for the most part, to cease fighting. Rightfully enough, who would remember it in our lifetime? We young people are regarded as unwise, where the nature of such a great war is concerned. Even someone like me who has studied the First World War to an extent cannot possibly imagine how the soldiers must have felt. They fought for the greater good; peace of nations, freedom, equality and happiness. This patriotic sacrafice leads me to remember in my one-minute silence, their troubles, their lives, their personality, and everything that made them unique.

Seven days ago also marked the death day of one particular soldier; Wilfred Owen. He taught English before the War, and wrote poetry which I enjoy, during his time in the trenches. Notable works include Dulce et Decorum Est; The Sentry and Futility. They are all brilliant poems which opened my eyes to the war genre of writing. As he is one of my inspirations, I have also remembered his death today. He was so close to the end of the War.

And to that, the War itself. Let me just say this, because it’s true. Most things around you today are ramifications of the First World War. No, even the Second World War doesn’t come close to the terrific shock that people got from 1914 – 1918. The way I see it, people in the Second World War had some idea of what such a big war would be like thanks to the First. But there hadn’t been a great war like the First, for at least 100 years prior to it. The British government had expected it to be over by the nearest Christmas. However it was three and a half years.

Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts. Have a think, have remembrance, have respect.

This is my composition for Advanced Higher Music in school. Okay so it’s music if you’re not from Scotland. Have a listen. It has a sort of fantasy genre, with a mix between Narnia films, Harry Potter, Guild Wars and Oblivion. But maybe that’s because the HP games, Guild Wars and Oblivion all had the same composer for their music, who actually inspires me a great deal to do this type of music.

Here’s the video anyway:
